LEEDS UNITED IN IRELAND

Dublin Side Beaten by Odd Goal in Three

In a match on the ground of the Bohemian Club, Dublin, yesterday, played for the benefit of the dependants of the late B. W. Mainey, a former secretary of the Irish Free State Football League, Leeds United defeated a team representing Dublin City, by two goals to one. The game, which attracted 18,000 spectators, was remarkably fast, and interesting. The Leeds forwards, Stephenson and Hargreaves, made a dangerous left wing, and in the first half Leeds United led at the interval by a goal, scored by Hargreaves. But P. Moore equalised with a spectacular header, early in the second half, and the Irishmen attacked with amazing enthusiasm afterwards. Stephenson scored the winning goal, after Watt, the Irish centre half, had made a miskick, but the home side did much more of the attacking, and the Leads goal had very exciting escapes in the closing stages. The standard of United's play, taking the match through, was disappointing. TEAMS: DUBLIN CITY: Pinkerton (Dolphin); Collins (Dolphin), J. Doyle (Bohemians); O'Reilly (St James's), Watt (Dolphin), A. Maguire (Bohemians); Donnelly (Drumcondra), S. Moore (Bohemians), P. Moore (Shamrock Rovers), Graham (Shelbourne), Geoghegan (St. James's). LEEDS UNITED: McInroy; Milburn (G.), Milburn (J.); Holley, Kane, Browne; Duggan, Furness, Carr, Stephenson, Hargreaves.
